Federal Revival
Sara Hillery Interior Design transformed a Federal-style home in Houston, Texas, into a warm, sophisticated retreat designed for family living and effortless entertaining.
Blending serene neutral spaces with vibrant, personality-filled rooms, this interior design project celebrates the homeowners’ eclectic collections, bespoke furnishings, and layered textures to create a home that feels both timeless and deeply personal.
After months of searching for a new home, a Houston couple realized their own Federal-style residence had everything they needed—with a few thoughtful updates. Inspired by the couple’s distinctive collections, including pottery, vases, Tarzan memorabilia, and original artwork, Sara Hillery Interior Design reimagined the interiors to better reflect their interests and lively approach to hosting family and friends.
The design balances understated elegance with expressive color, allowing tranquil, neutral spaces to complement more vibrant rooms, including the wife’s office and the kitchen. Custom furnishings, carefully curated objects, and a rich mix of textures bring depth and character to each space, while honoring the architectural integrity of the home. Every detail contributes to an interior that feels refined yet welcoming, with personal touches that tell the story of the people who live there.
The transformed home is a sophisticated yet inviting sanctuary that balances classic Federal-style architecture with the homeowners’ individual personalities. Designed for both everyday family life and frequent entertaining, the interiors celebrate cherished collections, personal passions, and timeless comfort in a home that feels unmistakably their own.
