Historic High Rise: The Prestwould
Sara Hillery Interior Design transformed a luxury residence at Richmond’s historic Prestwould into a refined retreat that blends architectural heritage, heirloom furnishings, and a lifetime of collected art.
Balancing timeless elegance with modern functionality, this interior design project celebrates the intersection of personal history and historic architecture. Located in The Prestwould, a landmark high-rise overlooking Monroe Park, the residence was reimagined as a welcoming second home for a retiree returning to Richmond after decades in Washington, D.C.
The renovation centered on thoughtfully editing and arranging the client’s extensive collection of artwork, treasured heirlooms, and meaningful objects.
Rather than starting anew, Sara Hillery Interior Design worked with these existing pieces to create a cohesive, layered interior that reflects the homeowner’s life and personal style. Each element contributes to a sense of continuity and character, while carefully considered updates bring renewed function and sophistication to the residence.
The completed home is a deeply personal, elegant retreat that honors both the building’s historic significance and the homeowner’s individual story. By combining cherished furnishings and collected art with thoughtful design updates, the residence achieves a timeless balance of legacy, luxury, and contemporary comfort.
