Merriwood Dutch Colonial
Sara Hillery Interior Design transformed this Dutch Colonial home in Richmond, Virginia, for a growing family. The design balances family functionality with luxury residential interiors, blending heirlooms, collected art, and new furnishings to create a timeless, flexible home.
After a successful start to their careers in Houston, a young family returned to Richmond in 2013, ready to put down roots and create a home of their own. The challenge was to design a space that could grow with their family, fulfill their wish list, and seamlessly accommodate the many facets of daily life—from work to play.
Dark floors and light walls establish a cohesive flow throughout the home, providing a timeless backdrop for the family’s eclectic collection of paintings, mirrors, and prints
Balancing sophistication with approachability, Sara Hillery Interior Design layered cherished family heirlooms with newly acquired furnishings and art to create interiors that feel both personal and collected over time.
The result is a home that nods to the past, celebrates the present, and embraces the future—a thoughtful reflection of the family who lives there and a space designed to evolve alongside them.
