From Sara’s Desk: July 2026

This July has been a season of movement. Between holiday celebrations, project installations, and a full travel schedule, I’ve found myself continually inspired by the places and experiences shaping this season.

After celebrating our country's 250th anniversary this month, I’ve been reflecting on what defines the American design spirit. Beneath its many influences and evolving traditions, I believe one element remains constant: our connection to the natural world.

Geography has shaped both my life and my design perspective. From Texas to Virginia, with New Orleans, Pennsylvania, and countless places in between shaping my perspective, I’m continually drawn to the landscapes that give each region its unique character.

Here in Virginia, that sense of place feels especially profound. As a Virginian born and raised, I’ve long been inspired by the architecture and design traditions that surround us, from Jeffersonian architecture to the timeless character of Williamsburg and Virginia’s early American design traditions.

This month’s favorites celebrate the spaces, details, and ideas inspiring me right now. From historic influences to contemporary interpretations, each reflects the beauty of place, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design.
